In Defense of... Taylor Swift

Sometimes I'm driving and a Taylor Swift song comes on and...I tell her to shut up and I change the song. It's not because I hate her music; I love her music, I own most of it. I tell her to shut up because just like when you're 16 and your parents point out the ugly truth and you don't want to hear it, Taylor Swift's words cut straight to my heart and I can't handle it. So maybe she's a serial dater, maybe she doesn't sing like ArethafreakinFranklin, maybe she's so nice you're not sure if it's real or not. So what. The girl knows what she's talking about. She says the things (sings the things I suppose) that the majority of women (and girls) are thinking, feeling, experiencing, WISHING they could say out loud or even have the ability to put into words. Look at some of her older songs, like Tied Together With a Smile...holy crap. That song is put in the simplest words but it's deeper than you realize and touches on a delicate subject with grace. You're Not Sorry? That's an awesome song, again touching on an experience that many girls/women have and gives it a voice. Sometimes people complain that her lyrics are too simple...but does everything have to be in metaphor? She spells it out, straight up, no games. This is what happened, this is how I feel, etc. It's the truth, and it cuts straight down and hits home for anyone with a similar experience. So don't diss the chick for being honest and real; that's more than most people will ever be.
